Razor

I am an additive synth junkie. I've got harmonic partials running through my veins.

Additive synthesis has never been popular. The greatest of hardware additive synths is the Kawai K5000, and that is old stuff. Hardware abandoned additive because its just a pain to program.

Software additives appeared, but were usually cpu hogs. Fortunately, today's cpu's are robust enough, and synth designers canny enough that additive is back.

For my money, Image-Line has led the pack with Sytrus, Ogun, Morphine and recently Harmless. And as mentioned, I await the debut of Harmor.

Meanwhile, I found this fookin byoot. Big beefy and sharp as hell. This is the current king of additive.

Razor.

The only bummer is that it has to be wrapped in Native Instrument's Reaktor, or its free Reaktor Player.

Still, the fact that it can be used as a VST, AU or RTAS makes it worthwhile. Believe me, this is the best additive synth at the moment.

Re: Razor

There are many forms of synthesis: subtractive, additive, fm, granular, wavetable...etc.

Additive synthesis is based upon the idea that any sound is made of a fundamental tone and it's accompanying harmonics or partials. Additive synthesizers allow you to manipulate these. Its the exact opposite of the traditional subtractive form of synthesis. Subtractive synths start with a rich wave and you use filters to remove frequencies. Additive synths start with nothing, and you add the frequencies.

For my way of working, the additive approach is more rewarding.
