As usual an eloquent and thoughtful reply to a post that barely deserves the bits and bits required to display it, let alone the thoughtfulness and clarity of the reply.

You do us all shame.

I would have however like to address something you mentioned in your statement

I by no means wish to convey the idea that anonymity is paramount to intellectual disqualification. Merely that within the boundaries of this forum an i.d. simply provides a discernible target or recepticle for the inevitable replies to your statements.

Indeed, many of my favorite authors worked under nom de plumes. However, the lack of a given name attributed to the work by no means negates the strength or validity of their ideas; does not knowing Voltaire's real name make him any less brilliant, (btw it's Francois Marie Arouet) Monikers, i.d.s, what ever, just provide an identity to direct discussion and criticism towards after the ideas or statements have been made.

Milton Voltaire and their ilk were working in dangerous times on seditious material and in the eyes of many deserved death as traitors or blasphemers. This is not the case here and now, what we are dealing with are weak minded cowards who are incapable of prolonged discourse.

As such they prefer the quick and dirty one shots because their greatest fear is to be cornered and forced to explain or expand upon their ill-formed juvenile ideas and suppositions. I know the type well: the dilettante scholars of the barstool who surround themselves with idiots and fools to make themselves feel smart by comparison, and whose chosen companions will never offer any real contest to their intellectual prowess.

These are not the actions of a person confident in their abilities or intelligence, these are the actions of person who greatest fear is to be outed as the half-assed fraud they are, and the house of cards will crumble.

A life of hesitation and veiled fear is not a life, it is an excuse for a life that far to many compromise for and accept.

Thanks for the kind words.

RH, thanks also for the clarification regarding anonymity. I was pleased to note that your response opposed only the anonymity of convenience - making a distinction between those whose anonymity shelters them from physical harm and those who hide only to maintain an emotional facade, built upon sand.

Yet I wonder, if we can draw any conclusions from how readily we attribute identity or even "personhood" to words based upon a name or an avatar. Personally I would like to attribute this tendency to some breakdown in our understanding of inter-personal relations as the result of electronic communication.

A brief persual, however, of our cultural history makes it quickly obvious that I would be incorrect to advance such a thesis. It seems that whether it be "Jack the Ripper", the "Swamp Fox" (American War of Independence) or any of the Marvel Comics Superheroesw we are more than just merely comfortable with caricatures as substitutions for genuine understanding of others. We seem to revel in such simplification.

Perhaps, such reductionism is necessary for us to cope with the volume of people and things we encounter. Any attempt to try and comprehend the complexity and contradictions of every person encountered would surely lead us to the edge of our sanity.

For myself, use of "Tweety" serves such a purpose - it allows me to humanize a voice which does little to deserve such respect.

Regarding Voltaire: I always knew there wasn't something "all there" about him. Glad to hear my suspicions weren't ill-founded. Shifty, no-account, name-changing coward - He can take his "Enlightenment" and shove it.... well you get the idea.

Tired cliches are the realm of the unimaginative and
uninspired.

Which is worse: being able to find joy in simple things or a or the inability to express yourself without relying on banalities?

Your confusion is well founded.

Hiya Zoozm,

Yes this is a music site, and your confusion regarding "Tweety", an anonymous 'friend' of the site, is shared by many.

If you were wondering, however, why anonymity was being discussed, I'd say it was because the world of ideas and music can interact at a level more sophisticated than "my boyfriend's back and there's gonna be trouble, hey na, hey na, my boyfriend's back".

What I'm trying to say is that some on this site take the opportunity to discuss politics, ideas or other non-musical topics, because on some level these issues are often those being implicitly addressed by music. Feel free to post on these topics or whatever else interests you.

Just remember - someone is sure to disagree with you.

All the best,

Beardo

It takes a great man to completely go against his own words and not see the profound ignorance in it.
